TIME FOR DEPLOYMENT

A Marine wife learns to handle almost every situation
While her husband is preparing to help protect our nation

He asks how everything is going when he comes home each night

Then she will tell him, honestly, everything’s all right

Bills are paid, the car runs fine, kids are doing well in school
The dentist says “no cavities”, and the kitchen cupboard’s full

She runs the house while he’s at school, or in the field on duty
Everything goes smooth & she finds time to knit a booty

TAD’s, range, school & empty nights take their toll
But the Marine wife continues daily in he “together” role

Deployment time comes around & now she’s on her own
If problems come about, now, he can’t come running home

Everything’s fine, nothing to worry, it won’t be very long
It’s only six months, what could possible go wrong?

She sees him off, she smiles big, somehow she hides the tears
But smiles & promises & kisses can’t dissolve the fears

Letter one is cheerful, full of loving words & kisses
Letter two is talk of work & all the things she misses

Letter three says no problems, everyone’s Okay
But now the landlord says that there’s a higher rent to pay

Four says she was locked out, but climbed in through a window
Five asks whatever do you do when all the fuses blow?

Six says the plumbers doing crazy–sinks are backing up
Seven says she’s sorry but Johnny broke his favorite cup
Eight asks what’s a carburetor and how much should it cost?
Nine, she fixed the flat, but her check, it seems, is lost

Letter ten is full of love, a letter really thick
It seem she missed work today–the baby sitter’s sick

Letters roll in one by one, always full of love
“I finally taught sally it is not polite to shove!”

Number thirty says “I Love You–Please come home soon”
Thirty-one ends “Oh, yes, housing called today at noon!”

“Moving in was lots of work & everything looks fine”
“It’s our anniversary–Dad brought a bottle of wine

She replaced the dryer belt & the washers hose
But says it took a doctor to fix Tommy’s broken nose

She mows the yard, weeds the garden, then tunes up the car
And even finds some time to learn to play the guitar

Homecoming time rolls around, the house is full of joy

He comes home & she’s not there–congratulations–It’s a Boy!
