He taught me how to ride my bike
And how to drive a nail
And it’s OK to fail
He showed me how to be a friend
He taught me wrong from right
He taught me how to water ski
And not to fear the night
He spanked me when I told a lie
I worked for special treats
He taught me love of animals
And always prayed for peace
He taught me courage, love, respect
He set my standards high
He told me of the facts of life
And taught me to ask why
We studied air conditioning
Together for his test
He worked hard trying to provide
His family with the best
His love of camping and fresh air
To live a simple life
To get away from daily stress
Enjoy the outdoor life
He took me to Lake of the Woods
And taught me how to fish
He promised me that I could be
Whatever I could wish
But most of all, he taught me love
But most of all, he taught me love
Integrity and trust
That life has consequences, too
But life’s not always just
Consequences are the price
We pay for living wrong
But if we stay true to ourselves
Our hearts will keep us strong
So here’s to Dad, with all my LOVE
The only gift I’ve got
I passed your standards to my kids
Because I love you LOTS!
