To the Man I Love

When we met you were kind,
Handsome, and
Clever
We thought we could make a life together

With time came trust
Respect, and
Devotion
Your love brought out every good emotion

I gave you my heart,
Love, and
Life
The day that I became your wife

Together we would laugh,
Cry, and
Sing
Life was such a joyous thing

Soon you began to lie,
Cheat, and
Play
I didn’t know, ‘til that fateful day

You’d found another woman,
Love, and
Life
You said you’d like to make her your wife

Now my life’s empty,
Lonesome, and
Sad
As I remember the life that we had

Today I will sit,
Think, and
Cry
Asking myself the same old “Why?”
